Our Ministries

The ministries of St. James are ever growing and changing to meet the needs of our community and our families. There is something available for every age group.

Safe Sanctuary Policy

Nursery

At St. James, we offer quality childcare during all worship services, small groups, Bible studies, and events. Children are welcome in the nursery from birth to age 3. At the age of three, children are promoted to The F.O.R.T.

When you check your child into the nursery, you will receive a pager that can be used to contact you. In the event your child or the nursery staff needs you, the pager will vibrate and blink. This pager is also used to check your child out of the nursery. Without the properly numbered pager, no one can pick up your child.

All leaders and volunteers in the nursery must participate in Safe Sanctuary training and complete a nationwide criminal background check.

Children (The F.O.R.T.)

Our Children's Department is for children 3 years old through 4th Grade. If you have any questions about what we have going on in the Children's Department at St. James, don't hesitate to ask!

Children's Church: All children attend the 11:00 morning service with their families. Children age 3 through 2nd grade will be dismissed during the service to attend their own Children’s Church.

Evenings: Each Sunday evening at 6:00 and Wednesday evening at 6:30, we offer other fun, hands-on lessons.

Events: During the year, we have many special events such as Vacation Bible School, WOW Wednesdays, Mom’s Night Out, Fall Festival, Live Nativity, Christmas Parade and more!

Missions: Our SON-Catcher Ministry gives the children an opportunity to paint, decorate and pray over suncatchers which are then sent as gifts to those who may be grieving a loss, celebrating an achievement, or simply in need of encouragement.

Safety: All leaders and volunteers in The F.O.R.T. must participate in Safe Sanctuary training and complete a national, criminal background check.

Our vision is that every child will build a personal relationship with our Savior and learn Biblical tools to defend their Faith. Our purpose is to create a safe, fun and loving environment that enables children ages 3 years to grade 4 to know Christ, understand His Word, grow in their spiritual walk, and share the love of Christ with others.

Middle School (IMPACT)

Our tween group, IMPACT: Influencing My Peers As a Christian Tween, is designed to foster an environment where 5th through 8th graders can grow in their relationship with Christ and in their relationship with each other.

Our purpose is to serve as a bridge between the children’s department and the youth ministry. This age group needs a place where people will understand their unique needs and will help build a relationship with Christ and with each other. Our Middle School Ministry will help lead these tweens to determine how to best IMPACT those around them.

Class Times:
Sunday School - 10:00 a.m. (upstairs in the IMPACT room)
Sunday Evening - 6:00-6:45 p.m.
Wednesday Evening - 5:30-6:00 p.m. Dinner; 6:00-6:30 p.m. Worship; 6:30-7:30 p.m. Class in the IMPACT room

Youth (Unite)

Our Unite youth group consists of 9th - 12th grade students from all across the Shoals area.

We love the fact that so many of our area schools are represented in our youth group. We take great pride in welcoming guests and new members. At St. James our focus is on discipleship, and our goal is to have each student realize their destiny in Christ Jesus. We have tons of activities that we do to help us stay focused on our task such as local mission work, discipleship classes, concerts, off-site youth services, summer beach/mission trips and youth-led worship services just to name a few.

We have many youth services available each week to help teach and encourage our students in their daily walk with Jesus.

Youth Services:
Sunday School - 10:00 a.m (adult-led bible study)
Sunday Evening - 6:00 p.m (contemporary worship and teaching )
Wednesday Evening - 6:00 p.m. (contemporary worship, fellowship, bible study)

We have something for everyone and we invite you to come see what God is doing in the hearts and lives of these great students and adult leaders. All adults who work with our youth are Safe Sanctuary trained and undergo a background checked.

Adult Small Groups

There are numerous opportunities for growth and Bible Study at St. James. Adults can choose from multiple small group studies on Sunday mornings at 10:00 a.m. and Wednesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. There are also several studies available throughout the week.
